There are lots of important details in which Tutanota differs from other encrypted email services and that make Tutanota’s level of security one of the best:

    • Tutanota supports auto-login so you do not need to enter your credentials on your home desktop every time you want to access your mails.
    • Tutanota uses a fast and nice design -
https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/new-mail-client – Our focus is on letting you access your emails quickly – not on presenting you the best-possible design that will slow down your email experience.
    • We encrypt meta data…

Hi Jonathan, we have just published secure desktop clients for Linux, Windows and Mac OS: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/desktop-clients/ They are still in beta, but we'll add lots of features in the near future, stay tuned. :)

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

    Hey Anonymous,
please try our new client at https://mail.tutanota.com. The full text search will be released within the next few days.

We will publish completely new apps by the beginning of next year. Thanks for your patience and your support!

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

    Dear Mandy,
you can receive cragslist mails from your Tutanota account and we actively tested this out. We never delete mails silently. Mails are either delivered to the inboxes of our users (check your SPAM folder!) or rejected.

Please contact us at support@tutao.de if you have any further problems.

We plan to implement offline availability which will increase speed a lot.

For now, please use our brand-new beta client as it is already much faster: https://mail.tutanota.com/

Do you like this improvement? Please support our development team by upgrading to Premium for only 1 Euro per month! (The upgrade process currently only works in the old client.) Thank you very much. :)

Please find more details about our completely rebuilt secure email client on our blog: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/secure-mail-public-beta-release

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

@jamesT: Actually, Tutanota has become much faster since we released the new client.

Deleting trash is running in the background on purpose as this might take some time (especially if you have tens of thousands of mails in your trash).

May I ask you to contact us at hello@tutao.de and provide a few more details:
    * Which Client and which OS/Browser and version are you using?
    * Which actions are taking long?

    Thanks in advance!

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

Please try the beta at mail.tutanota.com. Improved apps will be released within the next few months. We are working hard to provide improve your Tutanota experience! Thanks for your patience... :-)

We already started working on a bunch of larger performance improvements. It will take some time but we are going to provide you with a blazing fast Tutanota experience in the future! :)

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

The delay issue will be fixed with our next update of Tutanota, probably today. :)

We do not block proxies or VPN services by default. But sometimes we temporarily have to block signups to avoid mass registrations and spammers.
    We do not save cookies.
We do not log IP addresses by default. You can find all information here: https://tutanota.com/faq#anonymous-email

The base for importing has been implemented with the native desktop clients.

Please check our roadmap for further information on when it will be ready:
    https://tutanota.com/roadmap/

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

Exporting multiple mails has been implemented in our new client (currently in beta).

Importing is still on our TODO-List but there are many higher rated feature request that will be implemented before...

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

Importing contacts from Yahoo is currently not possible. However, you can use all contacts stored on your phone when using your app.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

    Hi David,

we will do our best to avoid this from happening - but if we ever had to shut down Tutanota, there would definitely be a solution for this.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

We never said that this feature will be realized in 2015. We will definitely implement import and exporting of whole mailboxes (single mails can be exported already) at a later stage.

Building an encrypted calendar is at the top of our to-do list right now as we desperately need a solution to schedule and share calendar entries securely ourselves. However, first, we have to finish the new client to push it our of beta and update the Tutanota Android and iOS apps so that you can use your encrypted mailbox with very good speeds and many more features on all your devices. Once we are done with that, we will build the encrypted calendar.

Thank you very much for your continuous support.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

The first version of the calendar won't include CalDav support. Unfortunately, CalDav was not build for encrypted services. We might support it via the desktop client at a later time.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

Come on guys! We are working very hard to bring forward Tutanota as much as possible and this will be one of the next stories that we implement.

We have come a long way since our first release (see https://github.com/tutao/tutanota/releases) and completely re-implemented our client throughout this year. We implemented search on encrypted data (will be released next week), full synchronization across devices and many more features for business customers (that are currently not visible for all of us).

We always want to deliver as fast as possible but we also want a high quality. It will take some more years till Tutanota is where we expect it to be. But the calendar is definitely one of the next things that we implement! :-)

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

You are right! This is one of the features we want the most, too. We will start working on it soon after finishing search and the new apps.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

We hope for Q3 but Q4 is probably more realistic.

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

We had to postpone the calendar implementation as we have been hired to implement other features first. Sorry!

AES-128 is secure regarding todays computers.

When we started developing Tutanota in 2011, AES-128 was the best choice to guarantee secure encryption and good encryption/decrpytion speed, particularly on mobile. However, we are aware that things change, particularly with the emergence of quantum computers in the coming decades. That's why we plan to update our algorithms in the near future to make them quantum-resistant.

As a workaround: just set the strict entry for a few minutes, do the domain validation in Tutanota, and change it to your softer entry afterwards.

    Hi Anonymous,

you can print an email after downloading it using Ctrl+P, have you already tried that? :-)

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

This has been scheduled for the current sprint: https://github.com/tutao/tutanota/issues/105

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

In Chrome you can print the email one by one as a pdf, but this can only be a work-around until we implement a better option.

    @John Doe:
Most of your claims are plain wrong. No one else besides a very small set of our employees has access to the encrypted data stored on our servers. BND and other authorities never had access to our systems!

In fact, German privacy laws are way stricter than in many other countries. For example, Switzerland has a dedicated surveillance law, just as the UK...

Please read the following articles on our blog for further insights:
    * https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/data-protection-germany
    * https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/data-privacy-germany

AdminTutanota Support (Feedback Manager, Tutanota) commented  ·

German privacy laws are very strict. We do not log IP addresses or hand out any user data. A German court warrant needs to be issued before officials can ask for data. On our servers, we only keep metadata (from, to, date) unencrypted. All other data is encrypted with the user's password and cannot be accessed by us.
