Can I use Tutanota anonymously? Do you log IP addresses?

We do not log IP addresses when you login or when you send an email. The IP addresses of sent and received emails are also stripped so that your location remains unknown.

Read on our blog how Tutanota makes sure to provide an anonymous email service. Upon registration you do not need to provide any personal data (e.g. no phone number required). We will also make it possible to pay our premium features with Bitcoin.

Our new beta mail client stores IP addresses of your logins under Settings - Login. This feature has been added due to requests of users who want to make sure that no one else has accessed their accounts. To guarantee the users' privacy, we have implemented the feature as follows:
  • The IP address is stored encrypted, and only the user can access this information. No one else - not even we at Tutanota - can access this information.
  • It is only stored for one week and then automatically deleted.
  • Before leaving the beta phase, we will change this feature in such a way that the user has to turn it on.
