Many webmail services offer this feature. It is almost rare to find a webmail service that doesn't offer a feature like this.

A service like SimpleNote but encrypted, with better support for Markdown, would be brilliant. I think this needs to be a separate service though, and not built in to the E-Mail client (though integration and fast switching between the two would be useful).
Secure notes to keep data such as Passport, Driving Licence, Bank Account, etc. would be dead handy.

Yes, YES, a thousand time yes! One of the few Google services I still use is Keep. Give me a private Keep and I'll be over the moon.
