I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Building an encrypted calendar is at the top of our to-do list right now as we desperately need a solution to schedule and share calendar entries securely ourselves. However, first, we have to finish the new client to push it our of beta and update the Tutanota Android and iOS apps so that you can use your encrypted mailbox with very good speeds and many more features on all your devices. Once we are done with that, we will build the encrypted calendar.

Thank you very much for your continuous support.

  2. Conversation View

    svnpenn via github:

    Gmail has conversation view.

I have been looking for a privacy-conscious email service that offers this as well. I have been using OpenMailbox and RiseUp, however they both use RoundCube software.

RoundCube has had a ticket open on this for 9 years so who knows when they will implement this, if ever. Please add conversation view so I can dump Gmail for good.

We would like to apologize that Tutanota does not support payments with cryptocurrencies at the moment. In 2016 we took a tough decision to give our encrypted webmail client a complete make over to improve performance, which became particularly important for mobile devices. The new Tutanota client is now in beta – https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/secure-mail-public-beta-release – and much faster. The speed improvement was also necessary to allow us to implement a search feature – https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/first-search-encrypted-data – one of the highest voted feature requests.

Our plan for 2018 is to bring the new client out of beta and to give the iOS and Android apps the same update as well as add the Android app to F-Droid.

Once we have finished this project, we plan to add support for cryptocurrencies. We will take a close look as to what currencies fit best before simply adding one or two. Please let us know your…

  4. Show unread counters for folders

Folders should show a count of unread messages, so unread messages routed to folders by rules can be seen.
The drafts folder should also show a count of unsent drafts.

  5. Disable login for alias name to safeguard your real account

The alias system is a great idea but what good does it do if one can still access your account by logging in using the alias name?

Since I assume most people use the alias name to give people they don't fully trust, it seems like a good idea to disable access to your account with the "fake" email you gave them, and thus a hacker will have a much harder time accessing your account when he doesn't even know your real login name.

Perhaps make this an option under Settings?

  8. Basic tools for writing

It would be great to have some options that allow you to edit the email text, almost the basic tools like bold, underline and italic text options.

  9. Please, add two-factor authentication to mobile app

I'm a paying customer. Not having two-factor authentication support on the mobile app is an important negative point.
At the moment, I am locked out of using the app on my mobile due to this. And disabling 2FA should not be the solution.
This feature is a must have, especially if you wish to attract more clients and support.

  11. Enhance login security

Suppose you have a special place from where you can read messages in confidentiality. Now you have the ability to get messages to this special place. This place is so special because you and only you can enter this place. You enter by entering your user specific login name and special key.

However the login is corrupted when the same login name is used as your contact address. The issue is that you spread a part of your login method when you give away your email address. The login is in this sense not as confidential as your email account,…

  12. Add some redundancy

There is currently only 1 MX record for mail.tutanota.de - please add 1-2 more for redundancy, there is always a possibility for system failure and sometimes it can take a while to repair it, so it might be better to have some more mail exchangers. Also when someone is misusing a server for spamming and it lands on some spam lists, you can just shut it off for a while and clean up and other mx'ers will take over. Also currently your IP addresses are provider allocated it's better to run a dual homing system with more than one providers…

Thank you very much for creating this request. We are very happy to announce that we have started integrating cryptocurrency support to Tutanota! As a first step, you can now donate to Tutanota with several coins: https://tutanota.com/community#donate

When you donate to Tutanota with cryptocurrencies, we will use this donation not only for developing Tutanota, but also for adding cryptocurrencies as a payment option to Tutanota. Read more on this here: https://tutanota.com/blog/posts/cryptocurrency-support

Thank you very much for your support,
    your Tutanota Team

  15. Attach more than one file at a time

The ability to select more than one file to attach instead of only one at a time. This would be much more convenient with less chance for error. Or, if only being able to attach one for at a time, fade the already attached file(s) to avoid confusion.

  16. Automatic sync of data

Currently data is not synched between different devices. E.g. when deleting an email in one device it is not deleted on another device and errors may occur when accessing deleted data.
Changes should be automatically synched to all devices.

  17. Create a repository that I can add to F-Droid

I don't mean the official F-Droid repository described here https://tutanota.uservoice.com/forums/237921-general/suggestions/6891427-add-to-f-droid-repository, I mean create a new one so that I can add it myself, like what tox does, https://repo.tox.im/android/ . Thanks.

  18. Encrypt all metadata

Scryptmail has implemented this feature. This means that they don't keep unencrypted copies of the titles of the messages, or the e-mail adresses of the people you correspond with.

Considering this service doesn't support POP3 or IMAP, why not implement this as well? I don't think a service which could hand over a list of everyone you correspond with to the authorities is really keen on privacy.

  19. Notification (sound)

I am using a fairly banal Samsung smartphone model GT-I9100 Android 4.1.2 and the app works a treat - thank you for developing that!

As an email user, I am very careful to confine email work to a time of my own choosing -I am sure that it's a discipline, or life hygien, that you of all people will see the point of... ;-)

So, whilst icon notification is helpful and works well, sound notification is a real problem because it cannot be ignored: it will keep sounding until it is acknowledged, which is irksome in many situations, eg if…

  20. Enable right to left text

You should support left bound emails in order to write also in Hebrew, otherwise Tutanota isn't useful for me. Gmail has no problems with other languages and support of emojis.

    Hello everyone,

the Arabic translation has been completed so we plan to add RTL support as soon as possible. As we have lots of feature requests on our to-do list for the coming months, we cannot give a specific ETA just yet.

If you know anyone who can code and would like to get this done faster, this would be awesome. Here’s the code for a pull request: https://github.com/tutao/tutanota

    Thank you very much!
    Your Tutanota Team
