I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  3. Note taking

I'd love a little sub-area for taking notes. Especially on mobile, since most note taking apps on android want too many permissions. Just if you guys have time for this, nothing fancy required here.

  5. Whitelist for trusted users so they can send more than 100 E-Mails per day / Blacklist for bots

This idea refers to the limitation to 100 mails per day to prevent spamming introduced here: https://tutanota.de/blog/posts/release-notes-1-9-6

A way to write more than 100 mails per day is to become a premium user, but I also would like to have a way to put free users who are asking on a white list.

Also one could try to recognize, whether an account sends an impossible high amount of mails in a short time frame to identify it as a bot and put it on a (temporal?) blacklist blocking all outgoing mails. If it is not a bot the user can…

  6. Make different inboxes for aliases

Having labels depending on which email-adress the emails are adressed to (the main one, alias 1, alias 2.. ), would make it easier to navigate through a huge inbox. Maybe with "subinboxes" for different labels/email-adresses.

  7. Pop3 please.

Web browser are inhernetly insecure i would never use web mail when security is priority.
I saw a response to a previous request for pop3 claiming Pop3 does not support end to end encryption. That is patently untrue. Pop3 and SMTP support TLS v1.2 with the same level of encryption as web browsers do.

Just like Jason mentioned, POP3 does not support end-to-end encryption. However, we will definitely integrate Tutanota into all major mail clients in future. But this will probably take some years…

Jason: Thank you for the detailed explanation!

  8. Add a "mark as unread" option in the email window

Although this idea is already posted, it does not explain the utility of it: if one has no time to reply to an email, or does not have the necessary privacy in case he was to disclose sensitive information, or even when he's not inspired at that moment, which can happen to us all; opening an email can then become a fatal mistake as you risk having it buried under tons of others and never replying or replying too late.

  10. Add Refresh Button

When I've left my computer idle for a while, or when I re-open my laptop after a long while, I still have the Tutanota website running, but I don't get new emails. I always have to log out and log back in to retrieve the latest emails. It might be nice to have a simple refresh button in the app that would force a reload of latest emails.

Thanks, this is a valid request, but we would rather like to focus on fixing the automatic download of new emails if it there are problems with this feature, instead of adding a button which should normally not have any effect.

  11. Modern email?

Any email system you have "inbox , sent, archive, deleted..."
I don't how you structured internally your system but a good Idea
is if I open my "Inbox" (name it how you like) I must have by default a thread view by date. Each thread must include: Incoming email unread, read, deleted email (and not yet flushed), archived email. In short everything related to any thread.
And if course, displaying each status very clearly (maybe slanting the subject of archived, barring the subject of deleted ... etc... upto you or colours?).

I appreciated the quick correction of the bug of…

  12. Change server location due to data preservation law in Germany (Vorratsdatenspeicherung)

In Germany the data preservation law has just recently been agreed on (Vorratsdatenspeicherung). As your servers are in Germany you will have to comply with this law. There are other countries (as far as I know for example Netherlands, Singapur etc.) that do not have a data preservation law. The suggestion is to relocate your servers to a non data preservation obliging country.

  14. Make it possible to really delete e-mail account (to register it as a new)

Really means, like it was never there. Name available again.
As i read all the ideas here, I want to use for example aliases which are not able to login in the future, which is not possible if i already registered the name, i'd prefer to use as an alias.

(Or, if i forgot the password, like me (but still logged in on mobile phone) and can proof that it's my account, it would be great to get it deleted and have the possibility of registering it again with the same e-mail address.)

  17. Whitelist

I wonder if there is an option to block everyone I dont know, and only allow selected people to send me messages?

This to keep spam phishing and all other crap away by default. Not in the whitelist, then bouce it. Return to sender, address unknown. (but then with a modern melody perhaps)

I'm asking this because I often notice that companies and even government related institutions share email adresses with others who I don't want to receive email from.

Maybe it's a bit controversial in some cases but it sure would make a difference to me to have such…

We will not implement a full whitelisting because it is too restrictive. But we will add blacklisting for domains and email address as well as marking email addresses as whitelisted so emails from that recipient are never put into the spam folder, but into the inbox.

  20. Offer a cheaper version of the outlook package for home users

I really like what Tutanota is trying to do but am having some practical problems moving over entirely. Linking it with Outlook would make a big difference, but I can't justify the business-focussed cost structure and would prefer a home user oriented option.
